The girl with the sky blue backpack

The girl with the sky blue backpack turned and smiled at me. Late summer saved the best stars for us, and I was thinking about taking her for a ride in the old spaceship. Something in me flickered and burned out a little knowing it wasn’t gonna last. The nights under the stars blurred with her plastic photos and left a smudge on my mind. It’s funny how I tried to set the lights in stone, they’re really just a blink of the eye and a signal on the radio. She’s The Tear In My Heart, dancing and ripping at the heartstrings on the beat-up guitar.

She’s got hair like the night lake and skin as clear as the wind, A Butcher With A Smile. Eight hours in The Charger turns into half a moment when she’s right there in the passenger. Listening and laughing and loving, the girl with the sky blue backpack is walking in the dark, but the way she pulls me up and out makes me wish I could sit with her under the stars a little while longer.
